What do you think of WHO?
For me, WHO is by far the most enjoyable West Ham site. Long may that remain.

In terms of quality of appearance and magazine-style content, it's not the best. KUMB has that sewn up. But KUMB has never really made me laugh - and there have been times when I've laughed to the point of struggling for air at some of the stuff written on here. KUMB has never been my first go-to site for West Ham news. All the WHU news you need is on here more or less at the same time as on other WHU sites.

Maybe it's the anarchy that sets WHO apart. The anything goes attitude, although that 'anything' is rather more restricted than it was some years ago. But that's understandable, as content is increasingly monitored throughout the internet and some of the things that people, particularly black fonters, used to get away with would now have the site closed down in no time. But you can still find that old spirit in the daily WHO life.

Like you probably, WHO has been part of my life for most of the last two decades. The site is lucky to have some excellent posters, even if it's hard to agree with all of them all the time. In fact, it's hard to agree with some of them any of the time. There are some highly intelligent people on this site, and some destined to be forever thick. There are people of all political persuasions and professional backgrounds. Together they all make up the fabric of this excellent site.

And yet, there's a faint aroma of mustiness in the air. A niggling sense that WHO is moving cautiously to the middle of the road instead of flittering all over the place as was its erstwhile wont. Evidence? See the gaps between posts. See the number of match thread posts. See the trend in the number of new people joining up. See Nurse Ratched's reluctance to engage in the kind of barny that regularly raised smiles throughout London and beyond.

WHO needs a kick up the arse.

It needs new blood and, perhaps, an updated appearance and more functionality. Get that and there'll be a fresh wind blowing through these pages. Ignore it and there's a risk that in ten years, WHO will be a haven for a dozen old men reminiscing on old times and spending all day calling each other a cunt.

More recently, after posting a reply, I check back a few hours later to see that I was still the last person to post. Threads hang around in the bottom half of the forum without disappearing for days. It used to be that I'd check back, and the thread had disappeared into page 2 far more rapidly.

I've logged onto WHO nearly every day since 2000/2001. Not sure how to fix it, or if an influx of new blood will improve things. I wonder if it's just had its day. Perhaps we should all be tweeting our displeasure instead of coming on here.

Glory days were definitely before facecock and now twatter has seen the nail in the coffin 🔨ered in a bit deeper.

Just think too many people have got bored and fucked off, the few and far between new posters get a bit snowflakey when they are inevitably and rightly so called out for being a cunt and clear off sharpish.

As for all this chat of site revamps, well you can't polish turd and let's be honest that ' congratulations you have won a fucking prize' pop up is hardly going to endear potential newbies as well.

Cunts.

I think it's worth it for the newspaper thread alone.

Re: What do you think of WHO?
The problem with WHO these days is that there are too many egos, too many people with a chip on their shoulder and too many people with a lack of self awareness. The art of debate is pretty much gone on here, you can't have a discussion without someone having a beef over a comment made 3 months ago.

Of course that has always been the case but now it is a daily occurrence with the twerps on this site.

The site still has some relevance but no where near what it used to be.

I blame the MODS for losing control of the idiots.

Re: What do you think of WHO?
SLOW as fuck and barely works half the time.
Too much arguing now, threads quickly descend into unrelated arguments, mainly because some posters are looking for certain posters posts just to pick an argument or to abuse.
Apart from that it's still a great site that still makes me laugh.

Ad long as they never allow people to post up pictures and GIFs.....if you go on that fighting cock site it's a fucking embarrassment. Would hate to see that cunt shit on here.

Agree with everything Coffee said really.

It's not as funny as it used to be, we used to have some real belly laugh moments on here years ago. The anonymous black fonts were hilarious.

You can still pick up some good advice/information on here which is mainly what I use it for these days. The Kodi thread has been a lifesaver for me.

I'm self employed these days so the free time I can spend on here is not what it once was (7 hours a day, mon-fri) I think a lot of the older posters have on in their careers and like me, don't have the time anymore.

Someone has to be the intellectual and moral compass of this site. It's a heavy burden but I'm prepared to wear it for my people, to whom I am a river.

It's shit and has been ever since Alex V gave up control.

Re: What do you think of WHO?
It's gone downhill a fair bit in the last year or so - the incessant arguments about the same thing with the same people pretty much every day have pushed people away.

I know there have always been arguments making up the majority of posts, but the arguments of old used to have more variety both by subject and participants.

Also Gavvy/The OS are to blame.

Re: What do you think of WHO?
I've been on here 15 years or so, and I think the last 2 or 3 years have definitely seen a decline from what it was in its heyday - a packed, rowdy, funny online pub, loosely bound by being West Ham.

The first thing is that far fewer people use it. Every day used to see several pages of posting, now two or three days can be captured on a page sometimes. The consequence of that is that it's less diverse and it's harder to escape the stuff that you don't like and are not interested in; therefore, some people just withdraw, and over time this adds up.

A lot of good posters have either gone or post very occasionally. Funnily enough I've noticed a few reappear over the past couple of months - usually on threads such as this - but unfortunately they don't seem to stick around. For me that has the most impact because there used to be a fair few posters who were guaranteed to make you laugh, or make you think, or who simply who had interesting stuff to relate. Far less of that now, interminable, circular arguing dominates the site.

Nonetheless for the time being it remains the best WHU site, but I do think it's in terminal decline, which is a great shame.

Coffee - I like you, but you think too much and like the sound of your own voice too much, and come across as a bit of a lonely old soul with this site being just about your only connection to the outside world. Just saying.
